Leap Into Spring...

The spring catwalks have really been getting me excited, I don’t think I’ve felt this way about the spring catwalks before. Pastels are back on the catwalks for the first time in a while. Personally I can’t pull off a lot of pastel as I have the wrong skin colouring for them so I’ll be working them into my accessories instead. Popular shades were mint, peach, pale yellow, parma violet and powder blue. As seen at Louis Vuitton and Johnathan Saunders.

There is a great 20’s theme coming through on the catwalks possibly influenced by movies such as ‘The Artist’ and ‘The Great Gatsby’ (which is out later this year). So drop waists and Vintage styles are having a serious moment. Make it modern by adding bright accessories, or rocking it up with leather for a tougher feel. I’ll be pulling out my now vintage drop waist black lace and working out how to make it fit the new trends. The dress also ticks off another trend box for spring, Lace, so i can multitask while looking fashionable!

Colour is another trend I’ll be embracing. Colour has been having a moment since last season with the bright coloured jeans that came in to brighten our way through the dark winter months. Swap berry shades for the brighter blood orange (an orange red shade that flatters most skin tones)or magenta and indigo for Cobalt blue, which I fell in love with when I saw this picture from the Elie Saab Catwalk, J’Adore!

Metallic pieces sashayed down the catwalk at Christopher Kane, Chanel and Alexander McQueen, and this trend can easily be incorporated into anyone’s style. Whether you choose a long shimmery maxi, silver clutch or just metallic make up have fun with it. Maybe incorporate a metallic tee into the 90’s grunge trend that is emerging or go for that Gastby glamour as seen at Ralph Lauren with lightly shimmering neutrals.

I’ll leave you with that food for thought while I go raid my closet to make a list of items I’ll be coveting this spring.

What spring trends do you love for 2012? And how will you be wearing them?

Sweet Roses

I just wanted to quickly share with you something i whipped up last night. I was having a mess around for the first time with butter icing and piping bags and decided to make rose topped cupcakes. I think i did pretty well though i do think i need some practice. Either way I'm ever so proud of myself.

What do you think? If anyone has hints or tips for me  about making piping easier for me would be greatly appreciated.

I made my butter icing with;

65g of unsalted butter
175g icing sugar (sifted)
Pink food colour
1/2 tsp Vanilla essence.

What do you make yours with?

A little bit of me..

Hello again,

This last week has been quite slow for my I'm afraid, though it has given me chance to re-evaluate things in my life. January is always the month I normally try to turn a new leaf and get things sorted, so there has been plenty of running between banks and scouring the internet for where my money is better off. In today economic climate I suppose you have to try to get your money working for you rather than it, and all that jazz.

I went to watch 'War Horse' at the cinema at the weekend and it’s a wonderful film. It made me laugh, Cry (well nearly) and have that wonderful feeling on happy satisfaction that only well written and shot films can give you. It really pulled me into its story, if you get the chance go and see it.

So a bit about me, just so you know what you're getting into.

I love crafts. Any kind really, I like to try it all. Baking seems to be my latest venture, with the aim that I will be able to make lots of varieties of cupcakes with different toppings and in lovely flavours. Card-making and paper-crafts are my favourite craft du jour, mainly because I can spend hours winding down from work thinking up new designs for my cards and incorporate old bits of ribbons and buttons, it becomes a reduce, renew, reuse project at the same time.

I'm a dreamer. There's not much to be done about this I always will be. Fairy tales are always so much more exciting than reality so who wouldn't want to live there? (Even if it only is in your head) Books and Films allow me to really dive into my imagination and dream big. Whether its disappearing into the back of a wardrobe or down a rabbit hole, dreaming is a brilliant escape.

My friends are my life, and I can't stand that we don't get to spend more time together but that’s growing up. You move on with your life and hope that you get a few hours together every now and again. I'm not the greatest fan of social networking and smart-phones for this reason as I tend to find people are too busy checking their phones for what is going on elsewhere than spending quality time with who they are in the room with.

Fashion is a passion of mine. It’s amazing how fashion can be a driving force for so many other industries' as well governing beauty, hair and even design. I got into fashion late, so to speak, and it’s taken me some time slipping on the icy edges before finding styles that suit me and feel truly have that feeling of me in the way I dress and not losing to having to have the 'in' thing to feel up to date. Later in my blogging days I may start sharing pictures of this and see what everyone thinks.

Well I don’t want to bore you so I will leave it at that for now.

Thanks for reading,

Welcome

Hi! I'm Emmie,

I decided to start this blog as a way of keeping myself engaged and sharing what i like and love. I suppose as a form of creative wind down for me. So Welcome.

I've never really succeeded in keeping a blog before, normally i give up and delete them but I'm hoping this wont be the case this time, I'll keep my fingers crossed. I always struggled with naming my blogs too which was a big reason i never got started, nothing ever sounded me. So why "Emmie Lou"? Emmie Lou is a nickname my Father gave me as a child which i detested with a passion, so i decided now, years later into my life its time to embrace it.

I've taken this approach with a few things in my life lately, I'm hoping secretly that it will make me a better person by facing fears and doing things that would normally make me feel uncomfortable. Even so far as to push my career in the direction of something scary and new. I suppose we will see where this journey takes us.

I will leave it at that for now while i work on setting up my blog and getting things closer to how i want it.

Until next time,
Emmie
