14 for 2014 - New Camera

So one of my goals for this year was to get myself a new camera. Don't get me wrong I love my Powershot but I really want to get serious about my photography so I figured getting a DSLR was the right move this year. I've barely been using any of the automatic settings on my Powershot for a while now too the only problem is sometimes I feel the zoom is a little slow for me to get a shot quickly enough so the manual zoom on a DSLR again appeals.

I've been doing my research and looking at different brands but to be honest I am a Canon fan so I think I knew it would always be one of their cameras. I decided to go with the 700D in the end, I had been toying with the 600D at the start of the year but the flip out back and touch screen persuaded me to move up to the 700D. I really want to get into making more videos as well this year as an addition to my photography, trying to document life in a different way I suppose.

So far I have taken it out a couple of times and I'm enjoying the added flexibility a DSLR gives, it is really lightweight for a DSLR but it still is a bit of a pain to carry around by the end of the day. I still need to get used to a lot of the features and discover where everything is but because I have always used Canons it is coming to me quite quickly. I think for the high end of a beginner DSLR it fits everything I need perfectly. I got it with the 18-55mm lens but I am thinking I will expand into other lenses soon so recommendations will be appreciated.

  1. I highly recommend a 50mm lens, they're great for portrait shots. I use it for blog photos quite often too. A macro lens is great if you're wanting nice close up shots of insects or plants (details) etc.

I really love my Canon :) glad you got one you love.
